Latest Update

17th March 2025

A GROUP 3 WINNER AND GROUP 1 PLACED 4YO GELDING BY DUNDEEL – BRISBANE CARNIVAL BOUND.

Tannhauser arrived at Tulloch Lodge, Randwick on the 7th March to commence his first preparation here. The stables are looking forward to meeting the gelding.

TANNHAUSER is a classy, lightly raced son of Dundeel, already a Gr.3 winner and placed at Gr.1 level. He is as sound as a bell and has many lucrative races still ahead of him.

TANNHAUSER is now in the care of Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott and has just enjoyed a well deserved spell. He entered Tulloch Lodge on 17th March to begin the next exciting chapter of his career.

He’s likely to resume in either a BM 94 at Randwick on 7th June or the Listed Wayne Wilson at Eagle Farm 14th June then will head to Listed Tattersall’s Mile at Eagle Farm 28th June. It won’t take long to recoup the $5,990 per 2.5% with him competing in races worth $160,000 plus.

With his explosive finish TANNHAUSER is an exciting galloper to watch.

His only sibling to race so far is half sister, Liquor who has won 9 times from 16 starts, the latest a huge win in the Military Rose last Saturday. Although it’s of no great significance it just shows the quality of the family.

TANNHAUSER is a horse who sits off the pace and unleashes with an explosive finish. At a similar time last year, he came from near last of a massive field in the Gr3 Carbine Club Stks to run a fast-finishing 2nd. Shortly afterwards he won the Gr3 Rough Habit flying home to score beating a Gr1 winner and a Gr2 winner in the placings. He’s an exciting racehorse with good races to win ahead of him

Was a $425k purchase as a yearling by Newgate and China Horse Club.

He maintained his top 10 status in 2023/24 thanks to Militarize’s spectacular Golden Rose G1 victory, Celestial Legend’s outstanding Doncaster Mile G1 & Randwick Guineas G1 wins and 7 other stakeswinners including Aquacade, Konasana & Femminile.

Trainer

Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott have been in partnership since 2016. They have been a dominating force in the Australian thoroughbred industry ever since.

The story of Tulloch Lodge began in 1941 when TJ Smith, Gai’s father, received his training licence. During the next fifty years, Tulloch Lodge produced some of the best horses ever to run in Australia, including the legendary Kingston Town and Tulloch.

TJ became the most successful trainer of Group 1 winners in Australia, training a record 282 winners at the highest level, and receiving 33 consecutive trainers’ premierships. In 1992, TJ handed the reins to his daughter Gai, who has become a racing sensation in her own right and has steered Tulloch Lodge to new heights in the 21st century.

Following in her father’s footsteps, Gai has trained 160 Group 1 winners, including eight Golden Slippers. To date, Gai & Adrian have collectively trained 26 Group 1 winners.
