This 2yo colt with the superstar looks, has just had another prep in which time he got out to doing pacework and looking very fluent in his action. He is still on the immature side so will now head out for a break to enjoy the Spring in a lush paddock. This is all part of the process which will help him furnish into the quality racehorse we believe he will make. We have our sights set on an Autumn debut for him.

Admire Mars has sired 21 winners from his first crop in Japan that have now turned three and they are headed by Group I winner Embroidery and stakes-winner Namura Clara.

LOT 141 FROM THE INGLIS CLASSIC, IS A WELL PRICED, GOOD QUALITY COLT BY JAPAN’S CHAMPION 2YO, ADMIRE MARS. MICHAEL FREEDMAN TRAINS.

We are excited to have that Japanese bloodline in our stable. Very dominant last decade in Australia and we are very pleased to have an ADMIRE MARS in our stable. He will head to the breaker soon to commence his education preparation.

With the famous Arrowfield brand on his shoulder, this powerful colt certainly looks the part. To look at, he is a distinct hybrid of his sire and his damsire with very similar markings to Admire Mars and the rich bay colour of Dundeel. Japanese horses tend to be very laid back and relaxed, and this colt is no exception.

He has purposeful mover and has a nice swagger about him and an unmissable presence. Although we may see him as a late 2yo, he will definitely be close the finished product when he’s 3 and with that pedigree should find his best at a mile, and even possibly a Derby trip.

It’s worth noting too that 3-time Gr.1 winner and successful Sire, Almanzor close up in his pedigree.

His half-brother, Freddie Bassett was a $230k yearling last year and debut with a good 2nd at Eagle Farm before returning from a spell and running a close up 5th at Warwick Farm. Annabel and Rob train him and he will be winning soon.

Admire Mars was unbeaten in 4 starts as a 2yo, a triple Group 1-winning miler & the only 3YO winner of the Gr.1 Hong Kong Mile G1. Now the sire of 13 first-crop 2YO winners in Japan, inc. a track record-setter.

Sire

ADMIRE MARS Three-time Group 1 winner, whose first southern hemisphere yearlings sold consistently well in 2024, has much to add to the growing story of Japanese stallion success in this part of the world.

A son of Group 1 winner & leading sire Daiwa Major (by Sunday Silence) & the French Group winner Via Medici, Admire Mars was Japan’s unbeaten Champion 2YO Colt of 2018 after winning all four of his juvenile starts.

His 2YO season culminated with victory in the 1600-metre Hanshin Asahi Hai Futurity S. G1, where he pulled clear of the field to score by two lengths in 1:33.9.

Admire Mars returned at three to claim the Tokyo NHK Mile Cup G1, overcoming a difficult, wide run in transit to sprint hard in the straight and score in 1:32.4.

The colt ended 2019 by playing his part in a Japanese cleanup at the Hong Kong International Races, defeating Waikuku and champion Beauty Generation in 1:33.25 to become the first 3YO winner of the Hong Kong Mile G1. He contested the same race a year later and closed out his ~A$5 million career with a fighting third behind champion Golden Sixty.

Standing at Japan’s famed Shadai Stallion Station, Admire Mars has begun his stud career in attention-grabbing style, with 3 first-crop 2YO winners in a single mid-summer weekend: the filly Jardinier at Kokura and the colts Mars Odyssey & Seiun Big Bang at Fukushima. He has since added a further 9 individual winners including the filly Embroidery who scored by 7 lengths at Niigata, in the process setting a new 2YO track record.

Dam

DARGANA Unraced Dundeel mare, Dargana hails from a quality International family. This is her 3rd foal, her 3yo has had 2 starts and her 2yo is yet to race. She is very closely related to 3 time Gr.1 winner and successful Sire, Almanzor.

Trainer

Michael launched his Training career in 1988, joining forces with his older brothers Lee, Anthony, and Richard in the famed Freedman Brothers Incorporated (FBI) stable. Over two decades, this powerhouse trained over 100 Group 1 winners, including five Melbourne Cup victories and four consecutive Golden Slippers.

In 2008, Michael struck out independently with a training license in Singapore, where he achieved an impressive 468 winners at a 15% strike rate, highlighted by the two‑time Singapore Horse of the Year, Super Easy. This tenure included a brief stint in Hong Kong before his return to Australia.

Based at Royal Randwick, Michael operates a boutique yet highly effective stable with just 29 boxes, a treadmill, walker, and pool access. Despite its size, he has produced several Group 1 stars, including Golden Slipper winner Stay Inside (2021), Forbidden Love (multiple Group 1 wins), and 2025’s Golden Slipper champion, Marhoona. Other notable performers include Queen of the Ball, Tiger of Malay, Glistening, and Prime Star.

He’s regarded as one of Australia’s hottest trainers, known for precision, communication, and elite results.

Recent Expansion: Establishing a Gold Coast Satellite Stable

July 2025: Michael announced the establishment of a satellite stable at the Gold Coast Turf Club (Aquis Park), marking a significant expansion into South East Queensland. He will be taking over the facilities long occupied by his Hall of Fame brother, Lee Freedman, who will transition into the role of stable manager.

The expansion aims to:

Provide Michael with a permanent base for year-round Queensland racing;

Solve recurring stabling challenges during high-demand periods like the Brisbane winter carnival and Magic Millions; and

Leverage Gold Coast’s world-class facilities and growing racing prominence.

The new stable comprises approximately 30 boxes, with Lee stepping back from his own training career to oversee operations. The move was timed to align with the start of the 2025–26 racing season (from August 1). This development reunites the Freedman brothers—albeit in a new structure—and reinforces Michael’s reputation while enhancing his stable’s geographic reach and operational flexibility.
