A SHARP AND CLASSY FARNAN FILLY BRED ON THE EXACT SAME CROSS AS NORTH ENGLAND.
It’s no secret we are massive fans of Golden Slipper winner, FARNAN as a stallion and this marvellous filly we picked up at Inglis Classic is one of the best examples we have seen of his progeny. She is an impressively agile and athletic filly, the perfect size for a fast-sprinting type who looks sharp enough to be an early 2yo.
Purchased in conjunction with Ciaron Maher who absolutely loves her (and of course will train) this wonderfully put together filly, is stunningly beautiful AND has the page to match her good looks with names like LA BARAKA, ALIZEE, ASTERN, TRISCAY on her page.
Her dam has produced two to race, both winners, including Stakes placed ROBRICK who got within a head of being a Listed winner over the Flemington Cup Carnival, dead heating with FRONT PAGE for 2nd, inches behind winner, RAY MAGNEIRO
FARNAN has been dominant with his first crop producing 5 winners so far incl. 2 at Group level. NORTH ENGLAND was his first ever runner and was placed in the Gr3 Breeders Plate on debut then went on the Gr3 Golden Gift – both before Christmas. He is out of a Lope De Vega mare which makes our girl BRED ON EXACTLY THE SAME CROSS.
KING OF POP is his other Group winner. He was very impressive winning the Gr3 Black Opal Stks, defeating… you guessed it.. another FARNAN runner.
Sire
The most credentialed Champion 2YO Golden Slipper-winning colt in over a decade. Timeform rated him the single most dominant Champion juvenile of the century following an exceptional run of two-year-old victories.
Farnan was a spectacular winner on debut and stamped himself as a serious two-year-old when following up with an easy win in the RL Magic Millions Wyong 2YO Classic. He returned in the autumn, where he was unbeaten in all three starts. The G2 Silver Slipper brought together a field of two-year-olds with big reputations, but Farnan was too good, easing down at the line to win by 3.3 lengths. Then came the G2 Todman Stakes. Again, Farnan’s class and professionalism shone through, resulting in a comfortable victory over G1 Blue Diamond Stakes winner Tagaloa. And then to the grand final, the richest race for two-year-olds on the planet, the G1 Golden Slipper. From a wide barrier, Hugh Bowman brought him across onto the speed, and he raced away, beating subsequent Champion 2YO Filly Away Game.
“He’s got the great athletic looks, precocity and speed. But, most importantly, he’s got the Golden Slipper behind him, which we’ve seen time and time again is such an important race for stallion success going to stud.” Co-trainer Adrian Bott.
A high priced $550,000 Magic Millions yearling, Farnan is by proven sire of sires Not A Single Doubt, out of G3 Vanity Stakes winner Tallow. Hailing from a potent speed family, he is a three-quarter brother to multiple Stakes-winning sprinter Sandbar.
Physically, Farnan is a powerhouse of a stallion with faultless conformation and an incredible constitution.
“Farnan showed last season that he has excellent fertility and a great temperament, making him an ideal stallion to work with. He has let down into a magnificent horse showing all the muscle, bulk and power we expect of an Australian speed sire.” – Shane Wright, Kia Ora Stud.
Farnan was the Leading First Season Sire at Magic Millions and Inglis Easter in 2024 (among stallions with no Northern Hemisphere runners), with yearlings selling for up to $1,200,000. By sire-of-sires Not A Single Doubt, Farnan is the epitome of a precocious speed sire. He currently sits 2nd on the 1st Season Sires Table on individual winners (5) just behind Ole Kirk (6). 2 of those winners are Group winners, – NORTH ENGLAND and KING OF POP.
Dam
A Daughter of LOPE DE VEGA, Dorotea is a half sister to the Lister winner, JUST AS SHARP who won at 2. Their Dam, Listed winner READYOR won twice at 2.
Dorotea has produced 2 to race, both winners including Stakes placed, Robrick. Her 3rd foal is a 2yo by Anders.
Trainer
Ciaron Maher, needs little introduction. The master trainer finished last Season on top of the Australian Trainers Premiership and is likely to regain that mantle again this Season. Ciaron surrounds himself with the highest quality personnel and matched with world class facilities, he gets the results. Whether sprinters, milers or Melbourne Cups, Ciaron Maher delivers the dream for his owners.
We are thrilled to have Ciaron’s services as conditioner of our horses. Fast horses, Best Trainers creates Group One Success!
