With a deep-rooted passion for horses since her upbringing in Northamptonshire in village of Croughton, United Kingdom, Annabel has honed her horsemanship skills through eventing, show-jumping, and hunting.
Her journey into the world of horse racing began when she discovered the excitement of the British jumps scene, eagerly following prestigious events like the Cheltenham Festival.
From the UK to Australia, Annabel’s adventure took an unexpected turn in 2016 when she embarked on a working holiday to the land down under. Falling in love with Australia, she decided to make it her permanent home. Starting with a remarkable six-month stint with Gai Waterhouse, Annabel’s passion led her to the Caulfield stable of renowned horseman Ciaron Maher.
Under Maher’s guidance, Annabel had the privilege of working with top-tier Group 1 winners like Jameka and Merchant Navy. Her talent and dedication soon earned her the responsibility of overseeing the Sydney branch of Ciaron Maher Racing, which she skillfully established in 2018.
During her tenure, the Sydney stable soared to new heights, achieving over 50 victories in New South Wales in just two seasons. Annabel also nurtured a string of exceptional young horses, including Dubious, Prague, Away Game, Holyfield, and Cellsabeel, showcasing her remarkable training abilities.
Not only is Annabel a gifted trainer, but she has also proven herself as an accomplished rider. In 2018, she conquered the world’s longest horse race, the gruelling Mongol Derby, covering a staggering 1000 kilometres in ten days. This awe-inspiring test of stamina and skill pushed riders to spend 13 to 14 hours daily in the saddle. Partnered with Adrian Corboy, another highly skilled horseman, Annabel emerged victorious, earning well-deserved recognition for her equestrian prowess.
Since transitioning to training in her own right, Annabel has continuously delivered impressive results in the early years of her career achieving 10 x Group 1 wins, 16 Group 2 wins, 7 Group 3 wins and 23 Listed wins so far in her fourth year of training.
