While Hellbent is certainly capable of producing successful colts, he is particularly renowned for the quality of his fillies, having sired Group 1 stars like Magic Time and Benedetta, as well as Group 2 winners such as Savvie Hallie, Hell Hath No Fury, and Kristilli, among others.

Sire
HELLBENT
Hellbent is a magnificent-looking dark bay horse standing at 16hh. His turn of foot is his greatest asset and his similarities to his father are uncanny.
His pedigree is interesting as he has a double cross of Green Desert which has been very successful cross. We believe he perfectly fits the criteria we look for in choosing stallions, being an explosive sprinter by a top sire and having a tough colonial dam line.
G1-winning sprinter. Winner of seven races from 1000m to 1200m from two to five, and of more than $900,000 in prizemoney, including the 2018 G1 William Reid Stakes (1200m) in near record time; second in the 2017 G1 William Reid Stakes (1200m), third in the G1 Oakleigh Plate to Russian Revolution, Listed BR Crowley Stakes (1200m), Listed GH Mumm Stakes (1000m) and Listed Kensington Stakes (1000m).
In-bred 3×3 to Green Desert, Hellbent is I Am Invincible’s fourth G1 winner and 29 Stakes winner and is out of Volksraad mare Volkaspray, who is from the family of 1963 Golden Slipper winner Pago Pago.
His yearlings have sold in 2026 for $600,000, $425,000, $400,000, $350,000, $340,000, and achieved a 100% clearance at Magic Millions (19 sold).
His daughters have sold to $900,000 at the Inglis Chairman’s Sale, bought by Katsumi Yoshida of Japan.
A G1-producing sire, Hellbent concluded his best season yet in 2024/25 with bigger and better books coming through. His million-dollar earners, still racing, include: Fully Lit ($1.85 million), Vivy Air ($2.88 million), Magic Time ($4.5 million), Benedetta ($2.24 million), while his 2025/26 juveniles include the G3-winning two-year-old colt Zip Lock, and Revengeance (a $600,000 earner).
2026 fee: $55,000 inc GST
Dam
GOLD GASSELLE by Deep Field won over 1000 meters, and belongs to a prestigious family that includes Assertive Lad, Assertive Lass, and the remarkable, Reset. She has had one to race; a placegetter..
Trainer
CIARON MAHER

At the forefront of Australian thoroughbred racing stands Ciaron Maher, one of the sport’s most accomplished and progressive trainers. As principal of Ciaron Maher Racing, he leads one of the nation’s largest and most versatile operations, renowned for success with both precocious juveniles and elite stayers. Raised on a dairy farm in country Victoria and shaped by an early career as a jumps jockey, Maher developed a deep, practical understanding of horses that underpins his holistic, horse-first training philosophy.
After gaining his trainer’s licence in the early 2000s, Maher quickly earned attention from his Warrnambool base for his ability to rejuvenate older horses and develop young talent. Early standouts such as Sertorius and Set Square paved the way for his breakthrough Group 1 success with Jameka in the 2016 Caulfield Cup. Known for blending traditional horsemanship with innovative methods like swimming, beach work, and recovery-focused conditioning, Maher established a reputation as a trainer unafraid to challenge convention.
From 2018 to 2023, his partnership with David Eustace formed a dominant force in Australian racing, producing stars including Coolangatta, Hitotsu, and Melbourne Cup winner Gold Trip. Following Eustace’s departure, Maher expanded into a national, multi-state operation with training centres across Victoria, New South Wales, and Queensland. With a résumé featuring wins in the Melbourne Cup, Caulfield Cup, Cox Plate, Blue Diamond, and Golden Slipper, Maher is widely admired for his adaptability, leadership, and belief in tailoring every preparation to the individual horse—embodying the modern evolution of Australian racehorse training.
