Three generations of racing pedigree. Two Group 1 Blue Diamonds in three seasons. A specialist in two-year-olds with a knack for getting the very best out of young talent — exactly the trainer you want behind your next horse.
Clinton McDonald is the son of trainer Ross McDonald, grandson of the legendary Bon Hoysted, and great-grandson of Fred Hoysted — a racing dynasty that has shaped Australian thoroughbred history since the 1920s.
Clinton took out his licence in 2000 and saddled his first winner the following year with Kirabati. Since then he has built a reputation for producing tough, durable horses that win at the highest level — including Group 1 wins with Regal Roller (Futurity, Toorak, Emirates Stakes), Hayasugi's clean sweep of the 2024 Blue Diamond Preview–Prelude–Stakes treble, and Streisand's Blue Diamond triumph.
His Cranbourne base gives owners access to one of Victoria's premier training facilities, with proximity to Melbourne's metropolitan tracks and a stable culture built around individualised attention to every horse.
Particular recognition for getting juveniles to the track ready, sound and competitive.
Multiple top-flight wins across sprint, mile and weight-for-age company.
Personal updates, stable visits, and transparent communication on every horse.
Based at Cranbourne Training Centre — pool, beach access, sand and grass tracks.
