A father-and-son partnership with one of the great surnames in Australian racing, training from Flemington and the purpose-built Pinecliff on the Mornington Peninsula. A quality-over-quantity stable that carries the Freedman legacy forward — exactly the team you want behind your next horse.
Anthony & Sam Freedman are a father-and-son training partnership based at Flemington and the purpose-built Pinecliff stable on the Mornington Peninsula, with a 2023 Caulfield Cup and Melbourne Cup double to their name.
Anthony Freedman is the younger brother of Hall of Fame trainer Lee Freedman and was part of the legendary Freedman Brothers operation that prepared champions including Makybe Diva, Alinghi and Miss Andretti. Training in his own right, and later alongside his son Sam, he has saddled Group 1 winners such as Super Seth in the Caulfield Guineas and the brilliant sprinter Santa Ana Lane.
Sam Freedman joined his father in a co-training role in 2019 after gaining experience in Europe and the United States, bringing a modern, data-driven approach. The partnership keeps numbers to around 60 horses in work — a deliberate quality-over-quantity model — and it paid off when Without A Fight swept the Caulfield Cup and Melbourne Cup in 2023, the first horse to complete the double since Ethereal in 2001.
