About the trainer

A great racing surname, carried forward.

"Quality over quantity."

Anthony & Sam Freedman are a father-and-son training partnership based at Flemington and the purpose-built Pinecliff stable on the Mornington Peninsula, with a 2023 Caulfield Cup and Melbourne Cup double to their name.

Anthony Freedman is the younger brother of Hall of Fame trainer Lee Freedman and was part of the legendary Freedman Brothers operation that prepared champions including Makybe Diva, Alinghi and Miss Andretti. Training in his own right, and later alongside his son Sam, he has saddled Group 1 winners such as Super Seth in the Caulfield Guineas and the brilliant sprinter Santa Ana Lane.

Sam Freedman joined his father in a co-training role in 2019 after gaining experience in Europe and the United States, bringing a modern, data-driven approach. The partnership keeps numbers to around 60 horses in work — a deliberate quality-over-quantity model — and it paid off when Without A Fight swept the Caulfield Cup and Melbourne Cup in 2023, the first horse to complete the double since Ethereal in 2001.

Common questions

What new owners ask before buying in.

How does ownership through BBT actually work?

You purchase a share (typically 2.5%, 5% or 10%) in a specific horse. BBT manages the syndicate; the Freedman team trains the horse. You receive your share of prizemoney and a clear monthly statement.

Can I visit the stable and meet the Freedman team?

Yes — all BBT owners are invited to stable visits. Race-day hospitality is included for major meetings.

What are the ongoing costs?

Training fees are charged monthly based on your share. We disclose all costs upfront in the prospectus before you commit.

How long until my horse races?

Yearlings typically debut at 2 or 3. the Freedman team is patient — we'd rather wait six weeks than rush a juvenile to its first start.

The next Group 1 horse won't wait.
