COURT DEEP DIGS DEEP AT MURTOA
It was Murtoa Cup Day and we saved the best for last as COURT DEEP contested the BM64 Hcp (1600m) with rising star apprentice Heidi Gillie in the saddle.

The Ciaron Maher and David Eustace stable (Ballarat) are one of the best in the country and with $100,000 on offer this was always going to be a hotly contested event requiring a tough, gritty performer. Heidi Gillie was able to establish a forward position and although he had no exposed form on heavy tracks the son of Deep Field came into this race rock hard fit after a strong 2nd at Echuca on the 11th September over the 1400m.

COURT DEEP looked like the horse to beat on the bend as he angled out onto the better part of the track before toughing it out and putting away the challenger late as the winning post loomed. It was a career highlight for the 4kg claiming apprentice who has developed a strong association this campaign riding him on every occasion which includes 2 wins and a 2nd from 4 starts.

VIENNA RAIN THRIVING IN HIS NEW SURROUNDS
The team have always had a very high opinion of our Manhattan Rain gelding VIENNA RAIN and he is back in the winners stall notching up win number 4.

He went through the grades stylishly under the watchful eyes of Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott racing competitively at metropolitan level before making the move north to Nathan Doyle at Newcastle. VIENNA RAIN kicked off his campaign at Newcastle in the BM64 Hcp (1200m) after a couple of regional trials and fitness was never going to be an issue first up on the home surface.

After an even getaway Brandon Griffiths was able to get into a good rhythm settling toward the rear of the field before looming large on the bend. Newcastle gives the back markers every chance to make up ground and with the leaders tiring Vienna Rain pounced late and raced away with an emphatic victory.

We have $700,000 reasons to get excited about THE FOUR PILLARS MIDWAY held on Golden Eagle Day as VIENNA RAIN is a horse that fits the model of BM68 Hcp (1500m). He is a winner twice over the mile and can’t be faulted with his work ethic and versatility on race day.

Nathan Doyle (Newcastle) has been doing a fantastic job with our horses that are either requiring a change of environment or step down in grade and we commend his hard working team for their professional approach to training.
