David Mourad (BBT Racing Manager) comments: Lot 102 beautiful VANCOUVER colt from the Ready To Run Inglis Sale. His breeze up was outstanding, and I think his action was one of the best of the whole catalogue. Just have a look at his breeze up, he has this beautiful long stride and covers the ground effortlessly. He has ran good time and done it really easily. I think that’s going to translate nicely when out on the racetrack. The mare has done a very good job, already training a stakes performer and multiple city winners. Very athletic horse.

BRUCE SLADE (Waterhouse/Bott Bloodstock Agent) comments: On behalf of Gai and Adrian, a really big thank you to Bluebloods for the opportunity to train THIS CRACKING VANCOUVER COLT. This is the first time Gai and Adrian have worked this sale very hard, we worked a lot on stride data analysis and this colt, that your having a look at right now, was a horse that was in the TOP 10, on stride length, for us in the sale, and I think you can see that, not only in his breeze up, and also when he walks around on the sales ground. He has a huge action and awesome scope and a lovely way about him. LOVED HIS BREEZE hence we are so happy to have him, and of course VANCOUVER came through the stable, won a GOLDEN SLIPPER, and Gai and Adrian have trained more VANCOUVER stakes winners than anyone else in Australia, so we have that on our side as well. Of course, VRENELI, half-brother trained by Gai and Adrian, has over $400,000 in prize money. This guy just gives me that same feel and GAI AND ADRIAN JUST LOVED HIM. Thank you so much for the opportunity to train him.

Sire: VANCOUVER

VANCOUVER is best son of world-class sire MEDAGLIA D’ORO. His grandam is the dual Group 1 winning Champion sprinter SKATING.

From barrier 16, he won the Group 1 Golden Slipper in the same time as leading first season sire Pierro and faster than the likes of Capitalist, Luskin Star, Marscay, Rory’s Jester, Danzero, Flying Spur, Stratum & Sebring.

“It’s a stallion making race and he will make a stallion” – Trainer Gai Waterhouse after the Golden Slipper.

“He’s a horse with great quality and great balance…just a lovely horse to watch” – James Harron, yearling purchaser.

Dam: HELVETIA

Trainers: GAI WATERHOUSE & ADRIAN BOTT

Gai & Adrian have gone on to achieve as much as humanly possible with racehorses. While many would rest on their laurels after such success, Gai simply wants to win more and more. Owners can rest assured that the Lady Trainer wants to win races just as much if not more than they do! Confirmation of this dedication to excellence came after just fifteen years of training when Gai was inducted into the Australian Racing Hall of Fame (2007). As we stand, in just over 20 years of training, Gai has amassed over 135 Group One wins and currently sits third on the all-time list (Group One winners) behind T.J. Smith and Bart Cummings.

By far Gai’s greatest achievements have been recorded in the best races of the year in both Melbourne and Sydney. Gai has won Sydney’s two best races, the Golden Slipper and Doncaster Handicap six and seven times respectively. Gai is by far the most successful trainer ever in the Sydney Spring. ‘Make hay while the sun shines’ is a phrase one often can hear Gai quoting. This attitude is reflected by Gai’s results in the best races contested during the Sydney Spring Carnival. The Flight Stakes (7 wins), the Epsom Handicap (7 wins) and the Metropolitan Handicap (8 wins) have become races at the mercy of Gai each and every year.

Gai & Adrian give each and every horse that comes into their care every possible chance to succeed. Only six horses in the history of Sydney racing have won the two-year-old Triple Crown and Gai has trained two of them (Dance Hero 2004 and Pierro 2012). Gai in fact has won more Group One races for two-year-olds than any other trainer.

Gai Waterhouse has had 1962 winner to date with a great career strike rate of 19% including 114 at Group 1 level.
